Poornaprajna College

Poornaprajna College, popularly known as PPC, is situated on a vast, lush green campus in the heart of Udupi city. The college is conveniently located just 1 km from the Udupi Bus Stand, 4 km from the Udupi Railway Station, and approximately 45 km from Mangaluru International Airport.

Legacy and Governance

Originally founded in 1960 by the Swamijis of the eight Mutts (Ashta Mathas) of Udupi, the college’s maintenance and governance were transferred in February 1962 to the Udupi Sri Admar Mutt Education Council (USAMEC) to streamline daily operations. The institution was envisioned by the late H.H. Sri Sri Vibudhesha Theertha Swamiji of Sri Admar Mutt. While the Council later functioned under the leadership of H.H. Sri Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji, the leadership has now been passed to the current President, H.H. Sri Sri Eeshapriya Theertha Swamiji.

Academic Evolution

The college has seen significant growth in its academic offerings over the decades:

  • 1960: Launched with courses in Arts and Commerce.

  • 1963: Introduced Science subjects at the Pre-University level.

  • 1965: Commenced Science streams at the degree level.

  • 1975: Introduced Management studies at the degree level.

  • 2001: Pre-University courses were detached and transferred to the newly formed Poornaprajna Unaided Pre-University College.

  • 2015: Expanded into postgraduate education with the introduction of M.Sc. and M.Com. courses.

Leadership and Excellence

The college has a storied history of being led by eminent scholars and writers, including Prof. V.M. Inamdar, Dr. Shankar Mokasi Punekar, and Prof. Gopalakrishna Adiga. This tradition of excellence has been upheld by a long line of able administrators, including Dr. A.P. Bhat and Dr. Raghavendra A.. Currently, Dr. Ramu L. serves as the Principal of the institution.

Milestones and Accreditations

  • Golden Jubilee: The 2009–10 academic year marked the 50th anniversary of the college, celebrated with the construction of a state-of-the-art Indoor Sports Complex.

  • Diamond Jubilee:  The year 2019-20 year marked the 60th anniversary of the college, celebrated with
  • NAAC Accreditation: In its most recent assessment on September 29–30, 2022, the college was re-accredited by NAAC with an ‘A+’ Grade (3.27 CGPA), valid until October 2027.

  • Recognition: The Udupi Chamber of Commerce & Industry conferred the “Award of Excellence” upon the college in 2012, recognising it as the best institution for advanced education in the district.

  • Autonomous Status: Govt. of Karnataka and Mangalore University grant Autonomous status to our college in the year 2025.
